The Rise and Fall of Home Fragrance
Share
Home fragrance has been around for a long time. It's not a modern concept. It can be traced back to ancient civilisations.
Scented candles made a strong comeback in the 80s and 90s. Brands like Yankee Candle gained a lot of popularity. I remember, as a kid in the 90s, my mum had bowls of potpourri in the house.
Essential oils have gained popularity as consumers seek holistic and eco-friendly choices.
Even though home fragrance has been popular for centuries, I’ve witnessed a decline in the industry in recent years. I'm not sure if it’s due to worries about the environment, like plastic packaging and chemicals in fragrance oils. It could be health issues, such as allergens making customers more careful. Market saturation may also be a factor. Many home fragrance brands offer very similar products. Lastly, changing buying habits could play a part. People don’t want to spend their money on home fragrance anymore. It feels like a non-essential buy.
While the industry may be facing challenges, it has shown a resilience and often changes with the times, adapting to whatever hardships its facing. I live in hope for its comeback once again.
