How did I get here? Well, it's a long story but I will try and keep it brief.
As a child, when I grew up I wanted to be something new every week. When I did grow up, that never changed. I have changed career nearly as many times as I've changed my socks. I have worked in retail, a pub, a call centre, a transport firm, a social care company, a solicitors and for the NHS. I have a degree in social work. I have done a creative writing course, a counselling course and a radio production course. I volunteer at a radio station. You get the gist. I get excited when I think of a new dream job, invest in it and try it... for a few weeks, get bored and give up.
However, it all changed Christmas Day 2016. My boyfriend Jac had bought me candle making kit for Christmas. At first, to be honest, I didn't really get why he had give it me. He said that I loved candles and always had them around the house. This is true. I love candles - my mother is obsessed with them so I grew up with candles burning around our home.
So, I decided to give it a go. I made my first candle on Christmas Day. And I had fun making it. But the pure joy came when it was set and I lit it. I had never made something that I was really proud of before. That was it, I was hooked. I looked at Pinterest for ideas and discovered soy wax. I joined candle making groups on Facebook for advice and they have been essential to my learning. I started making more candles and passed them onto family and friends. When they give me such good feedback, I thought maybe I could sell these. I've never been a business woman or had anything worth selling before so this was new territory for me.
I knew if I was going to do this, I wanted to do it properly. So I looked at everything I needed to do to start a small business. Meanwhile, I was perfecting the candles, testing scents and wicks thoroughly and designing my brand.
I am a self-proclaimed geek, music lover, film buff and TV obsessive. I'm one of those that can tell you the year an album was released, other films that actor has been in, what series that episode is from. This had to reflect in my candles somehow. I wanted my brand to express the type of person I am.
Naming the candles was my way of appreciating all those that have inspired me throughout my life. My way of bringing geek chic to your home.
That is my story so far. Who knows where it will lead.
